FUTURE
Online
learning is in its initial stage. As developers strive with new technologies,
the discipline advances almost every day. One online course which was
considered innovative few months ago is now considered to be out of date. Still
despite the swift change, shift may be identified, trends which point to the
future of online learning. What will be is not as completely different from present
models as may be formulated, still, some notable swings in the nature of e- learning and
learning in general, may be identified.
Hundreds
of years ago, no one could have possibly imagined some of the thrilling, productive
learning technologies we have today. In the last few years, there has been
technological advances that are changing the nature of the classroom, how learners
learn, and how tutors teach. Resources are readily available. I outline few of
the most popular e-learning trends (including MOOCs, m-learning, gamification,
and virtual labs, virtual classrooms, and social learning ) that could be
stepping stone for the future state of schools, besides speculate what
classrooms, learning platforms, and teachers roles might be like in the future.
The online learning
domain has developed over several iterations. At first, a typical example of
online learning involved video clips that demonstrated a project. Users were
provoked to answer multiple choice questions to advance, but this model did not
take place of instructor-led training. Online learning became more interactive.
Advancement in technology, graphics and storage allowed for more complicated
programs, and users could start participating in simulations or choosing the
path of their lesson. After that Social Learning Management System came into
existence which allowed for blended learning.
The Future
Today, and for the last few
years, education has been practiced in segregated buildings by carefully systemized
and standardized classes of students led and instructed by teachers working
alone.
In coming years, this
model will be seen in many areas to be obsolete, and a new technology, where
education is practiced in the community as a whole, by individuals studying
personal curricula at their own pace, guided and assisted by community
facilitators, online instructors and experts around the world.
The educational
experience would be diverse and rich, braced by interesting and engaging
educational software, and enhanced by discussion and collaboration with people
from around the planet.
Some tutors will form
personal and supportive relationships with the learners, acting as advisers
through the wealth of available material and others will prefer to become
masters of their domain, acting as experts and resources, serving not only
students but society as a whole.
Conclusion
Technology is
transforming education and its influence just continues to develop. By creating
and adopting a solid framework for online learning and employing cutting-edge
learning management systems and higher education institutions are in a position
to significantly improve student outcomes today and into the future.
